How to play online chess
This free online chess game is built for quick browser play without login, downloads, or account setup. Choose Play with Bot for a solo match against browser-based AI, or choose Play with Friend for same-device pass-and-play.
The board stays white-at-bottom like most online chess boards. Legal move highlighting, check status, promotion choices, and optional per-move timers make the game easy to use on a shared screen.
Bot and friend modes
- Play with Bot includes Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulty choices for casual practice.
- Play with Friend lets two players take turns on the same device with no invite link or login.
- Match history stays temporary in the browser and resets when the page refreshes.
Timer and result export
The optional move timer can add pressure to each turn. After a round ends, export a local PDF-style result record with players, mode, timer setting, move list, final board position, and result reason.
Chess basics
White moves first. Each piece has its own movement pattern, and the goal is to checkmate the opposing king. A game can also end by stalemate, resignation, timeout, or draw.
